How is everyone today? Probably tired from all the election festivities! Well it's a new day, and we have a new President Elect! It's pretty exciting. This was the first election that I have been pumped about. Granted, I'm only 24, so I haven't been able to vote in very many presidental elections either. Ok, enough political talk...ON TO THE GOODIES! I've been playing with glass pendants that I purchased from SunandMoonCrafts on Etsy and here's just some of the results!

I listed a few new items on Etsy, and just wanted to share them with you!
First up, is the Pressed Flower Glass Pendant in Orange.
This one was hard to photograph because the sunlight makes a glare on the glass, but I think I was able to capture the flower pretty well. I really like this necklace because I made it with a real pressed flower, not a picture and I used these really pretty vintage orange seed beads to make the chain for the necklace. I also have one in a purple-ish pink that will be posted later this week.

Next is my favorite one so far I think.
It's the Pitch Black Winter Ring

This one is made with a tiny 1/2" by 1/2" glass tile on an adjustable ring blank so it's fun for all! Are you a fan of snow? Hate to see it go? Live in an area where you don't get to experience the little white fluffies for yourself? Well this ring is for you! You can keep the snow all year round if you want :) I've handpainted a snowflake on a black background and added some glitter to it to mimic snowfall at night. It reminds me of looking outside after a big snowfall and seeing the moonlight shine on a blanket of untouched snow. AND the best part about this ring is that no two snowflakes are the same and these are no different!

Check out the shop at www.seedtobead.etsy.com

On a side note, have you jumped on the twitter bandwagon yet? I have and love it! I already have 71 followers! I have discovered some really cool shops. I believe that I'm going to take a day and share them with you all sometime this week or next perhaps. Caio for now all, I have lots to do today. One of the biggest goals for my Etsy shop today is to figure out some international shipping prices. I can always give you a quote, but it's nice to know when you are shopping also. On the non-Etsy agenda for the day is to clean my messy apartment!
Wish me luck everyone!

I voted!

I rolled out of bed at 5:30 this morning to go vote. I really had good intentions of going and voting early but that didn't really pan out the way I would have like it to. Luckily, I only had to go across the stret to another apartment complex to vote. I got there at 545am and there were already about 25 people in line ( retirees that get up at the crack of dawn and all those people that have to work at 7 or 8am). I didn't think that was too bad. I have a flu shot clinic today for a couble of hours at 10:30 and was afraid that if I waited till after work the line would be dreadful, so I'm glad I got there when I did.
The bad part was that we were all standing outside in like 35 degree weather and nobody was going in. 15 minutes later they opened the doors and about 50 people were able to get inside and get warmed up. They had only 4 voting booths set up, but it really seemed to be going pretty quickly. It was paper balloting, which was something new for me because in the smaller town I used to live in, we had electronic voting. Paper voting isn't too bad, it reminded me of those scantron forms you take tests on in high school. So, overall wait time was 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the experience wasn't terrible for my first time voting in Indianapolis. Ok everyone, I'm going back to bed for a litle bit. Don't forget to vote (and go to starbucks and get your free tall coffee for voting)!

Happy Dia De Los Muertos!

So, I have had a busy couple of weeks trying to get ready for Halloween festivities.
  • I had to make my halloween costume which consisted of a purple, black and green tutu, a corset top, a shrug with chains on it, purple hair extentions, purple and black striped tights and some thick chunky mary janes. I only made the tutu but it took me awhile to perfect it. This is a picture of the tutu about 3/4 done.
  • I also had to make jewelry for Blair's bday present:
  • I also made a few little 2 row peyote stackable rings that were in different combinations of pink, green and black (her favorite colors). I love these because they are fun, but low key and will fit under gloves for those who have to wear disposable gloves for work (I'm a nurse :P and she's a dental assistant). I didn't get to take pics of them before they made it into the gift box though.
  • I also made a necklace a chainmaille necklace! First real attempt at chainmaille, but I think it turned out really well. I posted it on Etsy today, so go check it out at my shop SeedToBead!
  • I also ordered supplies from Sun and Moon Crafts to make scrabble tile and glass pendant goodies. I made a glass pendant necklace with pink and white cherry blossoms and a green background for Blair's bday present. It was really cute, but was one of those things I didn't get a picture of before the festivities...(I know, smack me. hehe) I also played around with different papers and such and made a Jack Skellington and Sally square glass pendant with a simple "chain" made from montana blue seed beads that I purchased from GSBoutique on Etsy. This one I'm keeping for myself :)
  • I also made a glass tile ring with an asian print on it.
I think that's it for now, I hope you all had a lovely Halloween and have a great weekend!

My First attempt at a beaded bead with a peyote stitch

Hey everybody!
I just wanted to show everyone my latest project. I think it turned out quite nicely for my first attempt at the beaded ball using the peyote stitch. I tried other methods, but they didn't turn out the way i wanted...
Also, I just got a message (I missed the actual call) from the place I interviewed with recently, and I was supposed to do a 2nd interview with a supervisor from the sports medicine clinic, but according to the voicemail I just listened to, they are just going off of my references and want to have me come in sometime this week to talk about a position! I'm soooo excited. I still don't know the specifics of pay and what i'll be doing, because sports medicine is not what I interviewed for, so I don't know if I'll be doing sports medicine all the time, or just certain days of the week and then floating the other part of the week. I just hope that they are able to offer me something worthwhile! Everyone wish me luck! Until next time, stay classy Indianapolis :P

Wow. This is pretty nifty

Melted Pony Bead shapes
Ok, so a friend of mine who is slowly becoming my partner in crafting crime showed me this link to someone's blog that found a new use for those cheap plastic pony beads that everyone has, but doesn't know what to do with. She melted them down to make a shape for a necklace. I found this pretty interesting, so I figured I needed to try it out.

The blue circle shape was made with a shimmery blue star shape which when it melts looks like a soccer ball the way i placed the beads in there.
  1. I preheated my oven to 450 degrees
  2. put some aluminum foil on a cookie sheet
  3. put Metal Cookie cutters on the cookie sheet (very important that they are metal or they will melt also...)
  4. I made eyelets out of some jewelry metal I had, but a jump ring works too or you can buy some eyelets too. I found that it works better if they are on the outside edge of the cookie cutter or a good 10mm in because the beads won't melt around it right and the edges come out wierd. But that could be considered added character I suppose.
  5. Spread out the beads evenly. I laid one layer of beads in the cookie cutter and that worked well, except the tiny one where one wasn't enough so i had to put two on top of each other.
  6. I set my timer for 15 minutes. Someone mentioned on the website I got this from that she let them cook for 6 minutes and then put more beads on top and then let those melt for 8. I tried this for the second batch and I would recommend it because you can kind of see where they are melting and plan accordingly.
  7. Take them out and let them cool. You will know they are starting to cool because they will start making a cracking noise because they are pulling away from the cookie cutter.
  8. Once they are cooled, they should just pop out. Depending on the shape of the cookie cutter, you may have to play with it a little, so just be careful.
  9. Now you have this great shape you can create something with!!!
One of the hearts I made looked like stained glass
I especially liked how the clear glittery beads melted.

This is the link to the tutorial I followed, but it wasn't very detailed as far as heating instructions and such... http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/barb_wire_wrapped_heart_necklace

ah-hah!

I figured out that if i put a knitting needle in the middle i could see the stitches easier. I knew how to do it, but I kept losing stitches and getting a ball shape instead of a cord. this is much easier. Might be a little slower, but much easier.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Hello all,
It's been a little bit since I've posted anything, so I just wanted to share the new things I've made, the works in progress and the new colors of beads I have!
First of all, let me show you the new colors of beads I have recently purchased:

This is the lastest post on Etsy:

I made this with the leftover crystals from the bracelet I made.

I had a custom order last week, a double row of hearts choker for $10. Isn't that a lovely model? Yes, it' s me lol.

Little Red Riding Hooded Scarf
- this one is sooo warm and fuzzy. I'm very tempted to keep this one for my self. It's such a pretty color of red. I think it's actually called wine.

Stuff I'm working on right now:
Trying my hand at cubes. These links are made with a right angle weave. Two sides have 6 cubes and the other two have 4. I am planning to make a bracelet or necklace out of this but I've only gotten the 2 links made so far.

This is my knitting project that I have going right now.

It's reversible. Hot pink on one side and yellow on the other. I'm pretty excited about it. I probably should have not done stripes, just yellow on one side and pink on the other, but I'm planning to do a blue and green one that way without the stripes.

Last night, I thought I'd try bead crochet. I've got the first five beads crocheted, but when I get to the circle part, I don't think I'm doing it right. It doesn't look like the picture. I might have to look up a tutorial online.

Ok, well I think that's enough for now. I have to work tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday this week in Lafayette so not much is going to get done, but I do have thursday through sunday off so I'll get some time to create some things.

This is the week at a glance:
Monday-work in Lafayette
Tuesday-work in Lafayette
Wednesday-work Lafayette
Thursday- Off all day! Grey's Anatomy 2 hour Season premiere!
Friday-Off all day! Dog sitting Sophie so that Travis' parents can go see the Bob and Tom comedy tour at the Murat downtown. Should be interesting. I hear she doesn't travel well. lol.
Saturday-Sending off Sophie and enjoying the day.
Sunday-No plans, probably making something as usual I have about 5 things that I want to try and haven't got around to it. Pictures to come I'm sure!

New shop, New items

Well, I took Etsy Admin Michelle's advice and I finally moved all of my items over to a new username that doesn't have random numbers in it that are hard to remember. Check it out at www.seedtobead.etsy.com I did it last night, and I had my first sale ever on etsy this morning! Dunno if that was a coincidence or not.

I also posted 2 new items today. Little Red Riding Hooded Scarf and Wiggly Piggly Bracelet!

I'm really jealous of whoever buys the hooded scarf. It turned out so well, I'm gonna have to make one for me too!

Mobile blogging

Good evening everyone! I am just testing out the mobile blogging feature on blogspot.com. this will be handy when i'm bored at work at 2am and all my patients are sleeping :-P The pic is just again something random to see how the mobile aspect turns into what you see on the actual page (it's a picture of a dress that someone from the art institute made that was put on display on the sidewalk as part of an exhibit)

Welcome everyone!

Hello all, this is the inaugural posting of my blog for my etsy shop "Seed To Bead"!

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Jessica. I am 24 years old, and live in Indianapolis, Indiana with my boyfriend of a year. I have no kids, but I still think I'm a kid myself :) I am an agency nurse, and predominately work at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indy which is a Long term acute care hospital. The easiest way to explain what that means is that we take care of patients after they get discharged from the hospital, before they get to go home. These patients usually need sometime of rehabilitation before they get to go home. Most of them are being weaned off a ventilator or trach, or have wounds that needs some extra TLC :) I am a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and currently taking classes online for my RN degree so that I can have many more work opportunites. I especially would like to work in OB/GYN or Pediatrics. My ulimate goal is to be a nurse midwife and deliver babies! This takes A LOT of schooling, so that's a very long term goal. You need a master's degree plus some...

I consider myself a normal 24 year old (for the most part :P). I like to listening to music or discovering new music, going to concerts, watching tv, going out with friends, and playing video games (The Wii and any mario games are my favorite). I also like to make things, which usually turn out to be gifts for people. I crochet, knit and bead. I mostly make jewelry, but I also knit scarves, hats and blankets, so it's not uncommon for me to be working on like 5 different projects at once! I like working with chenille yarn (it's sooo soft!), pearls, and swarovski crystals; but most of my creations are composed of tiny seed beads. My fav
orite thing to make with them is a daisy flower.

I am currently in the process of changing my shop over to a new account with that username. My current shop's username is aegirl750353, and when I attended a store critique on etsy last wednesday, Michelle said I should change it so that people will remember my name, and it will make it easier for people to find me again! So I'm under construction I suppose you could say :)

Ok, I think that is enough about me. Please come and visit my store! Let me know what you think! You can use this handy little aim widget thing i made and it will send me an instant message! just make sure to change your nickname by clicking where it says aimguest1234 or whatever, so i know who you are! I though it was nifty :P (I'm also easily amused)

My etsy store right now is www.aegirl750353.etsy.com
It will be changing over to www.seedtobead.etsy.com
